Tested Positive For The 1st Time 🫠
Ugh! We were starting to think we were immune. Since the beginning of the pandemic, we’ve been able to avoid getting sick.
But this past Wednesday, I woke up with my throat really sore and dry. I thought it was because of the air conditioning that we’ve had on full blast since there’s a heat wave. I was tired, but I figured it was because I hadn’t slept very well the night before. I went to barre in the morning, but upon coming home and sitting down to work, I felt the body aches creep all over my body and the chills settle in. I was definitely sick. I took a test, and proceeded to curse a long string of vulgar words as it showed up positive. 🤬🤬🤬
My first thought was: HOW!? Where did I manage to get this? But then I remembered that in the span of the last 5 days, I had gone to a movie with my friend Fallon, got dinner with my friend Jennica, gone swimming at my in-laws, went to Walmart, the grocery story, and barre class… I literally could have gotten it anywhere. Woof!
My symptoms were pretty standard: sore throat, mild congestion, body aches, chills, high fever, fatigue. The first 3 days were ROUGH with the body aches, chills, and fever. Now that I’m on day 4, those symptoms are gone but the fatigue is like nothing else. My body feels totally depleted of energy.
I asked for everyone’s advice and here’s what I did to help my body feel better fast:
Took Vitamin D, Zinc, Vitamin C, Turmeric
Drank a ton of coconut water (for the electrolytes) and added lemon juice and orange juice (for the Vitamin C)
Epsom salt baths (for detoxing), I did it 2x a day
Took Tylenol to combat the fever, headache, and body aches
The hardest thing at first was isolating from my family. It was super sad having to distance myself from Archie. Unfortunately, he tested positive two days after I did. That was disheartening because I was really hopeful that he wasn’t going to get it. But! I will say, if there are any positives to this virus it’s that it seems to spare our little ones. Archie has had a consistent low-grade fever and seems a little more tired than usual, but he seems to be doing much better than I am. He slept almost all day the first day he tested positive, but today he’s been pretty normal. Thank God! 🙏🏼
The hardest part will absolutely be quarantining for the next 10 days. Especially since we’re in the middle of a heat wave, it’s hard to be outside for long periods of time and there’s only so much to do inside. 😅 But I’m sure I’ll get creative and we’ll figure something out.
Somehow, John is still negative and symptom-free. Let’s hope it stays that way because since my energy levels are so depleted, we need at least one of us to be functional to manage a sick but very energetic toddler.
I will say this too: anyone who tries to minimize the severity of the virus, don’t listen to them! It really sucks being sick and it is NOT “just” a cold, or the flu. It’s absolutely been 10x worse and I wish I was being dramatic. It’s kicked my ass and I’m healthy, work out almost every day, load up on fruits and vegetables, etc. I know it affects every body differently, but that shouldn’t impact how people treat how bad the virus can be for others. It’s real! It’s bad. You don’t want to get it.
I think I’m going to start masking up again at the grocery stores and whenever I run errands. I anticipate that the virus is going to get bad again in the colder months and I just do not want to get it again. The only other silver lining is that I’m hoping that after this is all said and done I’ll at least have anti-bodies ☺️
