We were recently invited to a BBQ at our apartment complex and decided to whip up these bad boys. They were so easy to make, I prepared the burgers and the sauce that morning!
Making these black bean burgers is stupid easy! They’re best served hot with a slice of melted cheddar cheese and a drizzle of chipotle mayo.
The BBQ was fun and I promised myself that I was going to take more photos, but sometimes when I’m having a good time with friends, the last thing I want to do is to whip out my phone or my camera. My friend Brina introduced me to some delicious Slovenian wine – she also makes a killer cheese board! Here are the few photos I did take:

Black Bean Burger:
4 cans of black beans
1 medium onion
4 cloves of garlic
1 tbsp cumin
1 1/2 tbsp paprika
1 1/2 tbsp of chili powder
1/2 tbsp of salt
1/2 tbsp of pepper
Handful of cilantro
1/2 tbsp of red pepper flakes (optional)
2 cups of breadcrumbs
2 eggs
Chipotle Mayo:
Mayonnaise

Instructions
Chop up onions and garlic. Saute onions over medium heat until translucent and fry garlic until browned. Set aside.
Rinse canned beans and pat dry. Dry them as best as you can either with a clean paper towel or kitchen towel.
Place dried beans into a big bowl and mash with a fork or a potato masher.
Once beans are mashed, add in the paprika, cumin, chili powder, red pepper flakes, cilantro, salt, and pepper. Stir.
Add in breadcrumbs. Stir.
Taste the mixture. Add more spices if needed.
Add in onions and garlic. Stir.
Add in 2 cracked eggs. Stir.
Once mixture is stirred together, start forming your patties.
(Optional) Let patties chill in the refrigerator for 2 hours so they hold together better on the grill.
(Optional) Before grilling patties, sear them in a frying pan with a light coat of olive oil so they won’t stick to the grill.
(Optional) Cook the patties in a pan with a light coat of olive oil for 3-5 minutes on each side.
Enjoy over a toasted and buttered bun, with a slice of cheddar cheese and chipotle mayo.
To make the Chipotle Mayo:
Mix mayonnaise, chipotle sauce, and a pinch of salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
Stir together, let chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
Serve chilled over a hot black bean burger.
