Bridges Nepali Cuisine in Winthrop, Massachusetts
When I first heard of a Nepali restaurant opening up in Winthrop, I was brought with a huge sense of relief. “Thank god it’s not another Italian restaurant.” Listen, I love a good Eggplant Rollatini and there is nothing wrong with the Italian food in our town, but there are times that I’m craving something totally different.
Bridges Nepali Cuisine is the kind of different that you can eat everyday. Uh, and trust me. We’ve been eating it everyday. We’re currently going through an invasive kitchen renovation, and while we have a cute little hot plate set up and get Hungryroot delivery on the reg, we get tired of washing our plates in the bathtub.
One of the things I love about Bridges and Nepalese food is that their food very healthy. They have a lot of vegan and vegetarian options. Their food is filling while feeling light. It’s flavorful without being saturated with heavy cream. They use no artificial flavors, no preservatives, and everything is made fresh. They have an open kitchen where you can see the food being cooked right in front of you!
Whenever we’re at Bridges, there are a steady stream of customers – some regulars (like us!) and some first timers. Avash (the owner), his mom, and the staff enthusiastically engage first-timers with samples, thoroughly explaining the ingredients and the thought process behind the food.
Avash let us know that his fierce mama is the master chef behind Bridges, and the recipes are based off of their Newari roots. Nepal has diverse cultural communities and food has always been a strong factor of each culture.
My favorite combination to order at Bridges: rice, yellow lentils, 1/2 vegetables, 1/2 chicken tikka masala, onions, cilantro, and mild spice. I also highly recommend the flatbread (it’s not your average flatbread folks, truuuuust me), the samosas, and the rice pudding. Did I just mention everything on their menu? LOL!
