How to Set Healthy Boundaries As a New Mom with Jemila Medley

See this content in the original post

In this episode, we’re going to be talking about boundary setting. This topic is something I’ve been dying to talk to someone about because I am not so good at it! I tend to let people walk all over me because I'm a people pleaser. I hate disappointing people to such an extent that I’m willing to make myself uncomfortable rather than say anything. It’s definitely something I need to work on. I’ve had some bad situations as a new mom happen to me that could have been avoided if I was just proactive and learned how to set boundaries in a healthy way.

To help me with this topic is going to be Jemila Medley, who is an occupational therapist, pelvic floor therapist, singer, dancer, and blogger. Jemila is a born and raised Jersey girl living in Dallas, Texas with her wonderful husband, Austin and her adorable son, Major.

Here's what we talked about in this episode:

  • Advice for new moms in how to set boundaries

  • Our personal experiences in boundary setting

  • Helpful phrases for new moms to start the conversation when setting boundaries

  • The best time to set boundaries

  • How to not experience guilt around boundary setting

  • Words of affirmation to help you gain confidence in boundary setting

  • How poor boundary setting is linked to self-esteem and self-worth

Examples of what poor boundaries may look like:

  • Having unexpected and frequent visits from them

  • Unsolicited input about your partner

  • Unsolicited advice about how you're raising your children

  • Having them buy things for your home without asking you

  • Frequent comments about your diet or body

  • Interfering in your personal life
